This year we are offering tastings of the upcoming Triennial Color summer in downtown Porvoo and the suburbs. To everyone's delight, the old wooden houses in the heart of Porvoo where the Old Strömborgska School was quartered, will be filled with Reijo Viljanen's paintings.
In the Porvoo suburbs of Gammelbacka and Kevätkumpu you will be able to experience, in addition to visual arts, events that involve townspeople and tourists.

PORVOO TRIENNIAL ON OFF 2020
REIJO VILJANEN PAINTINGS
11.6.2020 - 30.9.2020
Old Ströhö on Porvoo river side
Lundinkatu 1
Open Thursday and Friday from 13:00 to 18:00, Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 16:00
Reijo Viljanen's career began in the 1970s and he is a key figure when it comes to Finnish color painting. Viljanen worked for a long time as a teacher and principal at the Free School of Art and as a lecturer at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. Viljanen has works in the collections of Kiasma, the Amos Anderson Art Museum, the City of Helsinki Art Museum and the Emma Museum of Modern Art in Espoo, among others.
Reijo Viljanen's artistic production has progressed in series. The earliest paintings in the exhibition are panoramic urban silhouettes in which geometric pieces are arranged into meditative color compositions. Color expression is also central to Viljanen's later series of works with visual starting points as mountain, landscape and other nature subjects.
The color of Reijo Viljanen's paintings is something seen and experienced, even though the paintings have not been made directly from observation. For him, landscape as a subject refers to the unpredictability of nature and its constant change. The color expression may thus transform in a different variation of one serie from sheltered harmonies to others with more contradictory moods.
Reijo Viljanen's works take over 170-year-old wooden schoolhouse Ströhö in Porvoo city center. The installation, which spreads across different parts of the historic building, features paintings from Viljanen from the 1970s to the present day. Reijo Viljanen's exhibition continues the tradition of the Porvoo Triennial, where the production of one artist is presented in a slightly larger whole.
